Ball X Pit Rolls out the Regal Update on Ps5 – What’s Inside
Table of Content Зміст статті

Ball x Pit has received its first content drop of the year on PlayStation 5. Titled The Regal Update, the patch is free for all existing owners and adds two playable characters, eight new balls, three passives, and an Endless Mode. Lead developer Kenny Sun also shared how the project’s core ideas took shape—shifting from a turn-based prototype to real-time action and layering in fusion, evolution, and base-building systems. The Regal Update is one of three free updates planned this year.

From Turn-Based Prototype to Real-Time Survivors-Like

Development began in November 2021, after Sun noticed the mobile title Punball—described as a roguelike spin on Holedown—which sparked the initial concept. Early builds of Ball x Pit were turn‑based: players fired a volley of shots, resolved bounces, then enemies advanced. In February 2022, after trying Vampire Survivors, Sun switched the design to real‑time action, a move that redefined pacing and moment‑to‑moment decisions.

The game’s identity also rests on a fusion system, where any ball can be combined with any other to synergize abilities across three coded categories—status effects, area‑of‑effect, and unique effects. A related evolution system merges specific sets into wholly new balls, which can then be fused again. For meta progression, Ball x Pit integrates a base‑building layer that stays thematically tied to play—buildings act like bricks, and characters bounce around the space to apply upgrades—an approach informed by ideas from Loop Hero and Metal Gear Solid V.

The Regal Update – What’s New

The patch introduces fresh tools and a new way to push runs further. Here’s a breakdown of the content confirmed by the studio.

  • Two new characters:
    • The Falconer – fires two balls dispatched by birds on each side of the screen, creating a wide, swooping spread.
    • The Carouser – a medieval mischief‑maker who bends trajectories with a personal gravity field, pulling shots off standard paths.

  • Eight new balls (five revealed):
    • Banished Flame – a shorter‑duration burn that hits significantly harder than the standard version.
    • Fireworks – bursts outward in bright, unpredictable patterns to scatter damage in all directions.
    • Stone Ball – lands heavy on impact but gradually crumbles with continued bounces.
    • Brimstone Ball – behaves like an Inferno shot while adding poison for lingering damage.
    • Landslide – triggers a cascading debris wave ahead of the first impact, dealing damage over several seconds to nearby enemies.
    • Plus three more – additional balls are included, with details intentionally left unspoiled.

  • Three new passives:
    • Deadeye’s Impaler – raises critical hit chance; criticals instantly kill non‑boss enemies.
    • Grotesque Artillery – triggers a shot that draws randomly from your currently equipped lineup.
    • Iron Onesie – increases special ball damage based on how many “baby balls” are active on the field.

Availability

The Regal Update is available now on PS5 and is free for all Ball x Pit players. According to the developer, this is the first of three free updates scheduled for the year.

Why It Matters

The Regal Update deepens Ball x Pit’s buildcraft with more synergies and introduces Endless Mode for sustained challenge runs. If you have cleared the main game, the new mode and expanded toolset offer a longer runway to experiment with fusions, evolutions, and late‑game strategies.
