Planarcadia Arrives in Honkai: Star Rail 4.0 – What’s Inside
HoYoverse has announced Honkai: Star Rail Version 4.0 – titled No Aha at Full Moon – introducing a new world, Planarcadia, and the start of a year-long “The Elation” storyline. The update returns the Astral Express to Himeko’s homeland and sets up a broader arc that will later extend to the IPC stronghold Astropolis. Players will meet new companions Yao Guang and Sparxie as the team navigates a culture where entertainment rules and conflicts are settled through games. The announcement comes via the developer’s official blog and focuses on setting, systems, characters, and quality-of-life changes.
Planarcadia – an Entertainment-First World with a Double-Layered City

Planarcadia was once a 2D World in Canvas and has been revived under IPC stewardship, now overseen by Pearl of the Strategic Investment Department’s Ten Stonehearts. The first hub is Duomension City, a modern metropolis awash with electronic screens and memetic projections by day and neon-lit river views at night. Within the Dovebrook District sits the elusive tavern World’s End, a social node for the Masked Fools.
Local residents include imagenae – beings born of painting and imagination – such as mechatron guardians, the Meowton Station Master, and signal-amplifying thundercoils. These entities live alongside humans and shape everyday city life.

Interplanar Jump and the Duomension
Scattered entrances enable an Interplanar Jump into the city’s Duomension, where art style shifts and movement rules bend. Inside, players transform into forms of Trailblazemon and can perform actions impossible in reality – double-jumping and walking on water – to discover hidden activities across the city’s alternate layer.

Phantasmoon Games – Rules, Risks, and Rivals
In Planarcadia, disputes are resolved through games, capped by the headline event, the Phantasmoon Games. The winner gains an audience with Aha and one-minute authority of the Aeon of Elation. There are only eight masks that serve as entry tickets, and there are no fixed rules – Aha’s attention decides the lead, putting emphasis on ingenuity and adaptability.

Competition draws multiple factions: locals, the Xianzhou Alliance, the Masked Fools, the IPC, and the Stellaron Hunters. Silver Wolf and Blade are already in play, hinting at overlapping agendas beneath the spectacle.
Combat System Shift – Aha Instants and Punchlines

Version 4.0 introduces a combat layer tied to The Elation. Team setups featuring Elation-path characters or fights against specific enemies generate Punchlines. When excitement peaks, Aha triggers an Aha Instant, sequencing Elation Skills from allied Elation characters. More Punchlines amplify these effects. Afterward, all Elation-path allies receive Certified Banger buffs that add strategic depth to follow-up actions.
New 5-Star Elation Characters

Yao Guang – Xianzhou Strategist, Physical Elation
General Yao Guang, the Seer Strategist of the Xianzhou Alliance’s Yuque ship and senior soror to Master Diviner Fu Xuan, officially joins the roster. As a Physical character on the Path of Elation, she manipulates the flow of battle via Weal and Woe Lots:
- Weal Lot – boosts team Elation and grants Punchline stacks when she uses her Skill.
- Woe Lot (during an Aha Instant) – increases enemy DMG taken while recovering Skill Points for allies.
Her Certified Banger buff lets teammates deal extra Elation DMG, with further increases if their attacks consume Skill Points. Yao Guang’s Ultimate grants team Punchline stacks and immediately triggers an additional Aha Instant, while boosting All-Type RES PEN for all allies.
Sparxie – Planarcadia’s Top Streamer, Elation Burst
Sparxie resembles Sparkle from the Masked Fools and appears alongside her in the story. In combat, Sparxie opens a livestream room to run a PK upvote battle against enemies. Players can spend Skill Points to send random Gifts that regenerate varying amounts of Skill Points or Punchlines. Consuming more Skill Points yields more Punchlines, raising final DMG.

During an Aha Instant, Sparxie triggers a chaotic lucky draw, delivering multi-bounce AoE DMG. Under Certified Banger, each Gift that appears adds Additional Elation DMG to a random single target on settlement. Her Ultimate also deals extra Elation DMG.
Warp Schedule Highlights
Version 4.0’s Warp events will feature the following limited 5-star characters:
- First half – Black Swan, Evernight, Hysilens
- Second half – Sparkle, Cerydra, Rappa
Black Swan and Sparkle will receive buffs in this version.
Events and Modes – Cards, Magazines, Currency, and Roguelite
Beyond the main story chapter, new activities include:
- Cosmicon Collective – a lighthearted versus mode featuring card duels and high-powered encounters.
- Furbobo Weekly – a narrative event where players manage the routine of a magazine editor-in-chief.
- Currency Wars – expanded with new characters and mechanics.
- Divergent Universe – updated with additional content.
Quality-of-Life Improvements
Daily systems receive practical upgrades. Assignments are no longer tied to fixed timers or specific characters – rewards can be claimed and teams dispatched at any time. The Relic and Team Lineup systems also get usability optimizations for smoother setup and management.
Beyond Planarcadia – the Arc Continues
The “The Elation” storyline is planned to run for an entire year and will move beyond Planarcadia. The IPC’s Astropolis is slated to debut later in the arc, signaling further shifts in setting and stakes.
Why It Matters – a New Combat Layer and a Long-Form Arc
Planarcadia’s dual-layer exploration, Aha-led combat sequencing, and two Elation 5-stars mark a systemic pivot for teams and tempo. With a year-long narrative on the horizon, players can plan around faction intrigue, evolving modes, and more flexible daily systems.
