Planet of Lana II maps Novo’s new factions and biomes, set for early 2026
What’s new: the sequel’s scope and timing
Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf continues Lana and Mui’s journey on Novo, with the story once again delivered in an invented language and no subtitles. According to game directors Adam Stjärnljus and Klas Martin Eriksson, the planet has shifted dramatically since the first game. The sequel emphasizes player interpretation, treating the narrative as a puzzle to decode through context and exploration. Xbox confirms an early 2026 release window on Xbox consoles and Xbox on PC.

Novo in upheaval: conflict drives the story
After advanced alien technology arrives on Novo, communities are forced to adapt—or vanish. A new power, the Dijinghala, repurposes machines to extract the planet’s resources. When Lana’s niece is drawn into this exploitation, Lana and Mui set out again, confronting both their past and the hidden history of their home world.

Three factions, three approaches to survival
The sequel frames exploration and encounters around distinct attitudes to the roaming machines:

- Tailo Village – Lana’s coastal home has integrated machines into daily life for agriculture, fishing and infrastructure, aiming for symbiosis and harmony.
- Wemari Village – Deep in an ancient forest, this community is skeptical to hostile toward the machines, pushing players to move carefully through a beautiful yet deadly region.
- The Dijinghala – Rising from the desolate North, this society exploits machines to strip resources, posing a growing threat to Novo’s free peoples and escalating player confrontations.
Exploration expands across Novo
To reflect the planet-wide conflict, the campaign opens up a broader slice of Novo, including snowy mountains, deep oceans, ancient forests, forgotten ruins, and urban areas. The developers point to new creatures and gameplay variety across a 6-8 hour run, with secrets that shed light on Novo’s human and non-human past.

Storytelling that leaves room for interpretation
Like the original, the sequel’s dialogue-free approach invites players to read tone, animation and context. The aim is to make the plot, relationships and motivations feel discoverable, reinforcing the idea that the narrative itself is part of the game’s puzzle design.

Why it matters: a wordless world grows louder
Planet of Lana II leans into its strongest ideas—a decipherable, wordless narrative and a living world now split by ideology. For players, that means new regions to master, clear faction identities to navigate, and a focused 6-8 hour arc that expands Novo’s mystery without diluting its charm.
