Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is set to arrive on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass on January 29, 2026, with Xbox Play Anywhere support confirmed. Several weeks later, the game’s Patch 12 will introduce the Techmarine as the seventh playable class. According to the official announcement, the class focuses on crowd control and area denial and will be available across PvE and PvP modes. The update also adds a new mission and more gameplay options. The Techmarine class will be free for all players, with no DLC or in-game purchases required.

At release, players can jump into PvE and PvP. PvE encompasses Operations, Stratagems, and Siege, where you can team up with up to 2 other players against AI foes. PvP arrives as Eternal War, a 6-6 mode that pits Imperium loyalists against Chaos Space Marines.

The Techmarine joins these modes shortly after launch. The only exception is the Narrative Campaign, which remains focused on Ultramarines Lieutenant Demetrian Titus and does not support class selection.

Techmarine: Role, Tools and Progression

The Techmarine’s design leans on battlefield control – locking down areas, supporting allies, and thinning out groups. The class brings new weapons, deployables, and a dedicated progression path to Space Marine 2’s roster.

  • Combat role: Specializes in crowd control and area defense with strong short- to mid-range options.
  • Melee: Wields the Omnissian Axe, a Patch 12 weapon unique to the class, with wide swings for dispersing groups.
  • Mounted turret: Mechanical arms and a Servo-Gun turret are integrated into the Power Pack, providing automatic suppressive fire.
  • Combat Skill (“ult”): Activating the ability unleashes the mounted Servo-Gun for a heavy-fire barrage that doesn’t require aiming.
  • Gun Strikes automation: After Perfect Dodges or Parries, the turret can carry out Gun Strikes, letting you continue targeting other threats.
  • Tarantula support: Techmarines can locate and service Tarantula Sentry turrets during missions. These turrets assist until they run out of ammunition or are destroyed.
  • Progression: A dedicated perk tree with 25 levels offers class-specific upgrades.

Where You Can Play Techmarine

The class will be available in Operations, Stratagems, Siege, and Eternal War. It will not be playable in the story-led Narrative Campaign, which centers on Titus. Outside of that campaign, the class integrates across co-op and competitive modes.

Patch 12: More Than a New Class

Patch 12 expands Space Marine 2 beyond the Techmarine. The update adds a new 12th mission to Operations and Stratagems, introduces a new mission pick-up type, and brings 3 new Hero weapon variants. Players will also see additional customization options for helmetless Space Marine heads. Further specifics are due closer to release.

Key Dates and Rollout – Table: Space Marine 2 Launch and Patch 12 Overview

The table below summarizes the confirmed timing and content from the official announcement. It focuses on platform availability, the class rollout, and headline additions.

Bottom Line – What It Means for Players

Space Marine 2’s Game Pass launch on January 29 sets a clear runway for the Techmarine’s arrival soon after. For players, that means a new control-focused class with unique gear and a fresh mission drop on the horizon, all without additional purchases. If you enjoy roles that fortify positions and shape the flow of a fight, the Techmarine’s turret-centric toolkit looks built for exactly that.
