Weixin Pay opens to global remittances via new Mastercard Move link
TenPay Global – Tencent’s cross-border payment platform – has announced a collaboration with Mastercard Move, Mastercard’s money movement business, to support digital remittances directly into Weixin Pay in the Chinese Mainland. The integration is designed to make transfers fast, secure and transparent, according to the companies. Eligible senders worldwide will be able to move money to a recipient’s Weixin Pay Wallet Balance or to linked bank cards within Weixin Pay. The announcement lands against a sizable market backdrop: the World Bank estimates personal remittances received by China at US$31.41 billion in 2024. The move connects Mastercard’s networked capabilities with Weixin’s large user base to create a new path for cross-border transfers into China.
How the connection works
Through Mastercard Move’s portfolio of money movement capabilities, remittances can be initiated by eligible senders in supported markets and delivered to recipients in Weixin Pay. Funds can arrive either as a top-up to the wallet balance or as a transfer to bank cards already linked in the Weixin Pay app. The companies position the setup as an embedded experience – recipients access incoming funds within the platform where they already transact.
Scale and reach – by the numbers
- Nearly 10 billion endpoints worldwide connected via Mastercard Move, including bank accounts, cards, digital wallets and cash-out locations.
- The collaboration extends Mastercard Move’s reach to over 1.4 billion Weixin and WeChat users.
- Coverage across more than 200 countries and territories and 150+ currencies.
- Access to more than 95% of the world’s banked population, according to Mastercard.
What the companies say
“Across Asia Pacific, digital wallets are already an integral part of everyday life,” said Anouska Ladds, Executive Vice President, Commercial New Payment Flows, Asia Pacific, Mastercard, describing the collaboration as a way to embed financial services into daily routines and expand access.

Wenhui Yang, CEO of TenPay Global (Singapore), said the tie-up aims to help users stay connected globally and make it easier to send money back home, with a focus on swift and safe delivery within a familiar platform.
Context for cross-border transfers
International travel, global commerce and overseas employment continue to push demand for cross-border money transfers. By linking Mastercard Move’s network to Weixin’s ecosystem, the partners are adding another corridor for moving money into the Chinese Mainland through a service that many recipients already use for everyday payments.
Bottom line – why it matters
Global-to-China remittances get a direct lane into Weixin Pay. For senders, this adds another mainstream option for moving salaries and family support. For recipients, it means funds can land where they already manage daily payments – in a wallet they use, or to their linked cards.
