Ubisoft has acquired March of Giants, a multiplayer title previously developed at Amazon’s Montreal Games studio. The game’s developers will join Ubisoft to continue work on the project. The publisher says the team is already focused on the next major update. March of Giants is planned as a free-to-play release.

Set against a war-torn urban backdrop inspired by early twentieth-century technology, the game positions players as towering combatants directing forces on the ground. Ubisoft highlights a tactical approach that mixes real-time strategy with MOBA fundamentals.

What’s changing with the acquisition

Ubisoft is taking over development of March of Giants while retaining the core team behind it. According to the announcement, this internal transition is intended to keep momentum on upcoming content and consolidate leadership under veterans with prior ties to the company.

How March of Giants plays

March of Giants is described as a tactical MOBA with an emphasis on coordination and battlefield control. Players fight through lanes while managing supporting units and fortifications.

  • Format: 4v4 online tactical MOBA
  • Role: Players control giant heroes on a devastated urban battlefield
  • Era influence: Technology and aesthetics draw from the early 1900s
  • Command and control: Lead battalions of smaller troops to pressure lanes
  • Battleworks: Deploy trenches, tanks, turrets, and bunkers to shape engagements
  • Design blend: Real-time strategy elements fused with lane-based combat and team coordination

Who’s leading the project

The team comprises industry veterans led by two former Ubisoft figures. Alex Parizeau serves as Senior Production lead, bringing experience as the former Managing Director of Ubisoft Toronto, where he oversaw several major AAA projects. Xavier Marquis, Creative Director on March of Giants, was the original Creative Director of Rainbow Six Siege. Ubisoft positions their return as a strategic move to guide the game’s development.

Developers on returning to Ubisoft

“Returning to Ubisoft brings things full circle,” said Xavier Marquis, Creative Director. “We built some of our most meaningful work here, and we’re excited to continue developing March of Giants from within Ubisoft. This game has enormous potential, and I know Ubisoft can help us take it to the next level.”

Alexandre Parizeau added, “My thanks go to Amazon for their commitment during the first chapters of March of Giants. Our closed alpha was an important milestone and showed a glimpse of the game’s real promise. Now, by joining Ubisoft, we’re uniting behind a shared vision to build March of Giants into one of the next great, enduring MOBAs.”

Final takeaway – What it means for players

With Ubisoft now stewarding March of Giants and its original developers on board, players can expect continued development toward the next update and a sustained push on the game’s tactical MOBA direction. If you follow hero-driven team games with RTS layers, this is one to watch as it evolves under a familiar leadership duo.
