Kirby Air Riders arrives on Switch 2 with City Trial and more
Nintendo has released Kirby Air Riders exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 on November 20, 2025. The new entry blends high-speed racing with arena skirmishes and a progression loop focused on collection and customization. Auto-accelerating machines, drift-fueled boosts and character-specific Specials define the handling model. The game supports play online, on a single system locally, and via local wireless across multiple modes.
How the riding model works

Each match begins by picking a Rider – including Kirby, Meta Knight, King Dedede and Magolor – and a machine such as Warp Star, Wheelie Bike or Chariot. Machines push for top speed automatically; players use a Boost Charge button to brake and steer through corners. Drifting fills a Boost Charge Gauge that can be released for an explosive dash. Riders can also steal Copy Abilities from rivals to gain a situational edge, and every Rider–machine pairing has distinct stats and Specials.
Modes at launch

The game ships with several competitive and casual options that can be played online, locally on a single system, or via local wireless. Highlights include:
- City Trial – Free-for-all across the city of Skyah for up to 16 players online or 8 via local wireless. Scavenge machines and power-ups, survive unpredictable Field Events (from falling meteors to boss fights), then face a random Stadium contest after five minutes.
- Air Ride – A more straightforward race against 5 other Riders online or via local wireless. Tail opponents to draft their wake, collect stars, and convert them into speed boosts, while trading attacks along the route.
- Top Ride – A bird’s‑eye perspective where the entire track is visible, shifting the focus to tight route control and collisions from above.

Single‑player: Road Trip
For solo players, Road Trip threads a series of challenges through a narrative about Zorah. Stages remix the same playstyles from multiplayer – arena battles, racing, and objective events – while letting you stick with any Rider you prefer. The skill checks ramp steadily, emphasizing machine mastery and smart use of Copy Abilities.
The Paddock and progression
The Paddock acts as a social hub and matchmaking lobby for up to 32 online players across City Trial, Air Ride, Top Ride and other playlists. Progression revolves around an in‑game currency called Miles, earned by competing and completing challenges. Miles can be spent in the Machine Market to buy or sell machines and to unlock cosmetic customization – including decals, patterns and special effects. Player‑made machine variants can be listed for others to acquire, and you can pick up community creations in return.
