Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment gets two free content drops
Nintendo has released two free updates for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment on the Nintendo Switch 2. The patches arrive in two waves – the first on Nov. 27 and the second on Dec. 18 – and focus on expanding late‑game combat options and enemy variety. Players can expect new Vicious enemy variants, additional weapons and materials, fresh Sync Strike options, and a higher difficulty setting. Some content is aimed squarely at those who have rolled credits, layering tougher encounters with bigger payoffs.
Both updates are available now. Key additions are listed below with exact features as outlined by the official announcement.

Update #1 – released Nov. 27
The first drop broadens enemy lineups and introduces new ways to coordinate attacks. It also extends progression with gear and an extra upgrade resource.
- New Vicious enemies: Bokoblins and Flux Constructs
- New Sync Strike pairing for Zelda and Calamo
- Sync Strike compatibility with a Flux Construct
- New weapons: Longsword of Light and High Guard’s Spear
- New upgrade material: Pure Zonaite Steel
Update #2 – released Dec. 18
Content in this wave unlocks after completing the main story. It adds a roaming menace that changes battle behavior, a harder setting for veterans, and new skills for a construct ally.
- Phantom Ganon: can appear in select battles post‑story, making monsters more aggressive while increasing potential rewards for victories
- New weapon: Forbidden Blade
- New Vicious enemies: Lizalfos and ChuChu
- New difficulty option: Forbidden Difficulty
- New Unique Skills available for the Mysterious Construct

The game in context
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment revisits the Imprisoning War, presenting the full-scale conflict around Demon King Ganondorf’s invasion that was briefly shown in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Players take the field as Princess Zelda, King Rauru, and other heroes, leaning on coordinated team actions – including the newly expanded Sync Strikes – to dismantle large enemy forces and boss-led contingents. The title is available on Nintendo Switch 2.

Why it matters – tougher endgame, clearer build paths
These free drops add higher-stakes encounters, new gear, and extra upgrade routes, giving returning players reasons to refine builds and push into harder fights. If you have finished the story, Phantom Ganon and Forbidden Difficulty turn late‑game runs into meaningful risk–reward hunts.
